Communication with families
At Smithfield Public School, we pride ourselves on our effective and efficient communication with parents. When your child is enrolled in a Support Class at Smithfield Public School, we will ensure you are consistently kept up to date with your child's learning and development, through a variety of means. Some of these include-
- Seesaw App
- Informal conversations after school and by appointment
- Parent/Family Surveys
- PLaSP (Personalised Learning and Support Plans)
- Annual review report and meeting
- Bi-annual school reports
- Annual Parent-teacher interview
Communication with students
Students in the support unit use a range of communication methods to express their needs, ideas, and feelings. They are supported to communicate with staff modelling clear language and offering opportunities for practice.
Visual supports such as pictures, symbols, and schedules are consistently used to enhance understanding and expression. Students are also supported to use gestures, key word sign, visuals, and communication boards (AAC) to support interaction and inclusion.
